I’ve had a postcard size (7″ x 5″) Gessobord panel knocking about since I bought it a couple of months ago. Having read a lot about this support I wanted to give it a go, mainly to see how it is compared to my home made panels.

The surface isn’t as smooth as I expected. It has a tooth, albeit extremely fine, and is nowhere near as slippery as my usual panels. This slight absorbent quality is actually very pleasant to paint on, but I don’t think I’ll be using Gessobord all the time. It has inspired me to try a thinner layer of oil primer on my panels to keep a little of the tooth from the gesso underneath.
I decided this was a good opportunity to paint our cat Jasper for the second time. Here he is in his favourite spot on our bedroom window sill.
