I wanted a still life with better lighting so have been building a stage based on the Mark Carder’s ‘shadow box‘. I’ll post a bit more on how I made this at some point.

This was the resulting still life. I painted this in the day which was an error in judgement as the light still changed significantly throughout the day. This didn’t completely render the shadow box useless, but it did make the whole process more difficult to judge. Next time I’ll stick to the evening when my ‘studio’ (aka conservatory) is dark.

I was reasonably pleased with the outcome. It would have had a bit more drama in the dark with a single light source as you can see in this photo, but at least I know for next time.
